Inkster in Action is a physical activity and nutrition project aimed at enhancing both activity levels and healthy eating in the Inkster community. The project is a partnership between Nor’West, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Family Services and Housing, Inkster Parent Child Coalition, and community members: the goals of the project include:

•Those community residents will be aware of Inkster in Action, and will be familiar with its goals and objectives, and the services that it provides.

•That community residents will have increased awareness of physical activity and healthy eating.

•That the project will result in more physical activity among project participants.

•That the project will result in project participants making healthier choices.
Some of the programs associated with Inkster in Action include: Fun with Food and Fitness, Club Possible, Walking Groups, Catering Initiative, and presentations or events with activity and healthy eating. Volunteer Team - Developed a volunteer program that trains and supports community members to run their own programs regarding physical activity and nutrition. NOR’ WEST and Inkster in Action is looking for Volunteers to join different committees and groups related to physical activity and nutrition in the Inkster area. As well, if you have a skill or talent related to physical activity or nutrition and would like to run a group of your own, let us know.
Healthy Active Living Team- Update: 3 teams from nutrition, active living, healthy schools have amalgamated to form the Healthy Active Living team. The team will look at multiple strategies to support healthier eating and active living. The team will be hosting 3 forum is different areas. A detailed description for the forums will be available very soon. However the general theme will be supporting community members to make lifelong wellness choices and providing them with appropriate resources (i.e. phone call, groups, meeting with dietician etc...) The team will also support other community initiatives such as healthy lunch workshops at child care centres and support for the food banks.
Communications Team - is working to promote projects, develop resources and provide education on Inkster in Action through a variety of resources.
Workplace Wellness Team - is a brand new team that will focus on the development of staff physical activity and nutrition initiatives, demonstrations and resources.
Research Team - Working with a researcher to evaluate projects. This includes the development of goals, objectives, activities and evaluation material.
Inkster in Action Steering Team - This team oversees all other team initiatives, provides feedback and resources, and develops overall strategies.
The path to healthy living begins with the foods we eat. Inkster in Action is committed to helping people become more food savvy by developing skills such as: gardening, cooking, and shopping. These basic activities help to develop a well-rounded knowledge of healthy living.
Physical fitness is set in motion by being active. Inkster in Action helps to create activities through programs such as: summer recreation, and fitness workshops.
