Domestic violence against women occurs when your intimate partner attempts to control you through physical, emotional or sexual violence. Women's Relationship Counselling provides a safe, confidential support base to women who have been affected by abuse.

Phase 1: TENSION BUILDING

•Tension escalates

•Threats, verbal harassment

•Minor forms of abuse

•Both try to control behaviour


Phase 2: EXPLOSION

•Uncontrollable discharge of tension

•Physical or emotional abuse

•Destructiveness

•Emotional collapse

•Police may intervene


Phase 3: CALM

•Both minimize severity

•Woman feels responsible

•Calm and kindness follow

•Apologies and promises given that it will not happen again

•False hope is restored in relationship
